Sessions run every second and fourth Friday of the month, 3:30-5pm, from my cosy home studio. With no more than four children attending per session, each child will receive all the attention and encouragement they need to make great art.

Please bring your child in clothes that don’t matter. Aprons are provided, but children seem to prefer not to wear them, and mess will happen!

Parents are encouraged to stay in the comfortable lounge (next door to the studio), where they can chat, read, work and make use of the WiFi.

I love the freedom of being able to paint and create so much. There are always lots of tools to experiment with.
— Seb (young artist)

Embrace the Creativity!

In the studio, the delightful mess of artistic expression is embraced! Young artists investigate the elements of art and the principles of art making through a balance of gentle guidance and freedom of expression.

Our two children love the kids art club. They have the freedom to explore their own creativity, guided beautifully by Alaina. I am always surprised by the process and outcome. Our youngest is becoming much more confident with experimenting and less troubled by ‘getting it right’. This is a testament to the environment that Alaina creates.
It is one activity that they always look forward to.
— Kate M. (parent)

Inspire the imagination!

Every session is inspired by an exciting theme, based around an intriguing question, inspiring piece of art, or a captivating object or material. Equipped with a variety of art materials and light instruction, children begin to form an understanding of the art and artists that have gone before them, whilst discovering how their own art making reflects and becomes part of this rich history.

I like that we get given ideas but then we can do our own art our own way, and the cats.
— Sophie (young artist)
Alaina’s art workshops and art club for kids are fantastic. My daughter loves attending and creating wonderful works of art. She has learnt some exciting new techniques and improved her observation skills, but we also appreciate how Alaina enthusiastically allows the kids to follow their own creativity wherever it may lead them. I would highly recommend these classes.

January to April 2025

This term’s focus is on Storytelling, with a variety of activities demonstrating how artists might tell a story with their work. Each session can be approached as a single, one-off experience, or choose a few to help your child build upon the skills they learn. Book all six sessions together for a discount.

What’s Your Story?

10th January 3:30-5pm

The children will discover a little about the history of Japanese story scrolls, a precursor to manga. They will then draw their own story scrolls to take home.

Jabberwock ‘Zines

24th January 3:30-5pm

The poem ‘Jabberwocky’ by Lewis Carroll is a nonsensical verse full of meaning to the imaginative mind. Using some favourite lines of the poem, the children will be making their own ‘zines (little booklets) of illustrations.

Adventure Maps

14th February 3:30-5pm

Old, hand-drawn maps are often stories in their own right, full of sea monsters and strange creatures on the fringes of the imagination. The children will draw the story of an adventure across an island of their own, crossing mountains, visiting volcanoes, and battling (or befriending) the creatures they find.

If your small person is interested in this activity, I highly recommend a visit to the Mappa Mundi at Hereford Cathedral to hunt for monsters.

Joan Miro

28th February 3:30-5pm

Joan Miro is known for his colourful collages and paintings, full of his signature black line drawing, which he often applied through the process of automatic drawing. The children will create their own bright collages, then create their own automatic drawings in response to a story script.

Moving Pictures

14th March 3:30-5pm

The children will investigate ways to make pictures move using simple pop-up techniques.

Shadow Puppets

11th April 3:30-5pm

Puppets have been used to illustrate and act out stories for centuries. In this session, the children will make their own puppets on sticks, with moving sections and coloured windows, ready to tell their own stories.

My studio is in Northway, just outside of Tewkesbury, near J9 of the M5. Numbers 41 and 71 buses pass at the end of the road, which is just a ten minute walk from Ashchurch-for-Tewkesbury railway station.

Full address details will be shared upon booking.

There is an intentional overlap in the ages for Art Clubs. This option is great for children who enjoy making art and are interested in exploring how they can take their art making further, applying their creativity to real world ideas. Kids Art club also introduces a little art history, considering how art has developed over time, and investigating their likes and dislikes.

If you are unsure which Art Club would be the best fit for your child, please contact me at alainastorrarart@gmail.com to arrange a chat.

If sessions are full, or you cannot attend the current art club dates, please let me know by completing the form below. This will give me an idea if there is scope for a second group. At the same time, you may wish to join my mailing list so I can keep you up to date with new classes and workshops.
