What youā€™ll learn

  • Each lesson provides further knowledge about choices for paint, how to use different brushes, the importance of watercolour paper, and a few additional materials that can be combined with watercolour.

  • The basics of colour theory will be taught explicitly in the first lesson, with further instruction throughout the course. You will learn how to mix colour without it getting muddy, and how to combine colours beautifully.

  • You will explore how to control and manipulate watercolour paint: from creating smooth washes to successfully painting depth and detail, this course will support you to handle this unpredictable medium with confidence.

Iā€™m Alaina (pronounced Al-ay-na), an experienced watercolourist and trained teacher.

My own watercolour art has evolved from classic botanicals and purist style to a more innovative style that incorporates the beauty and unpredictability of the paint, striking a balance between abstraction and realism.

I believe in the artist inside every person, and aim to build an environment that encourages creativity and exploration. The warm and nurturing atmosphere of my studio supports all participants whatever their ability or experience, and empowers everyone to explore with confidence.
